I just started my journey with Tini Jane Studio a couple of months ago, and I’ve been learning so much about gel manicures! I wanted to share 5 simple tips I’ve picked up so your gel nails can stay looking beautiful for longer — from my hands to yours.
1. Prep Your Nails (It Really Helps!)
Even as a beginner, I noticed that taking a few extra minutes to prep nails makes a big difference. Clean, dry nails and lightly buffed surfaces help the gel stick better. I always try to remember this step — it really does make your nails last longer!

2. Go Easy on the Layers
When I first started, I wanted my nails to look perfect, so I sometimes applied thick layers. I quickly learned that thin, even layers work much better — they cure properly and don’t peel as fast.

3. Don’t Skip the Top Coat
Even a beginner like me learned the importance of a top coat! It protects your gel polish and adds shine. I like to gently reapply a thin layer every week or so to keep the nails looking fresh.

4. Treat Your Nails Gently
I’ve noticed gel nails last longer if you avoid using them as tools or exposing them to harsh chemicals. Wearing gloves while cleaning or doing dishes really helps. I’m still learning, but this makes a noticeable difference!

5. Keep Practicing (and Book Touch-Ups)
Since I’m still new, I’m practicing all the time. But even beginners like me recommend small touch-ups if nails start to grow out or chip a bit. At Tini Jane Studio, I’m learning that this keeps nails looking nice and healthy — and it’s something I can offer when my clients book with me.
